Ever wanted to learn disc golf?
At COPE Network's first ever Disc Golf Beginner Bash, participants will learn the fundamentals of disc golf, then practice and play a custom 12 hole round perfect for newbies. No experience or equipment of your own is required!
Already an experienced player but eager to assist newcomers to the sport? Feel free to join in on the fun and help others learn the game!
This event is a great opportunity to make new friends, pick up a new hobby, and help support a local non-profit. All proceeds benefit COPE Network.
All Skill Levels Welcome (ages 16+)
Whether you're a complete beginner with no prior experience or a seasoned disc golf hobbyist, this event is open to you! As one free disc will be given to each registered player, you do not need to bring discs of your own if you do not have any. All ages 16+ are eligible to register.
Family Friendly
Family and children are welcome to accompany players to the event to supervise or spectate. Family members may also choose to spend time in the park while loved ones attend the event. Spring Valley Park has three playgrounds, walking trails, a soccer field, tennis courts, restrooms, water fountains, and more. Yard games such as cornhole will be available at the event area. Children are also welcome to "caddy" or accompany players along the course.
Sober Friendly
This event is welcoming and supportive of people who may be in recovery or seeking a sober activity. Identifying as sober, seeking recovery, or being a part of the recovery community is not required to attend this event. We simply ask that all attendees be compassionate and caring towards people in recovery or seeking recovery, just as you would any other attendee!
Raffles and prizes
Each registered player will receive entry into a raffle with prizes generously donated by local businesses. Additional raffle tickets will be available by donation to COPE Network. Top placing players in the event will receive additional raffle tickets.
For a good cause
COPE Network is a non-profit 501(c)(3) providing resources to individuals who use substances or who are in recovery in Southwest Michigan. COPE also provides overdose prevention trainings and distributes naloxone (the antidote to opioid overdoses) free of charge. To learn more click here.
Event details:
This course includes dirt trails in wooded areas, grassy fields, paved areas, as well as some slightly hilly areas.
Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes with appropriate traction (suitable for walking long distances along unpaved areas). Please also wear weather appropriate clothing and sun protective clothing. If the forecast is going to include rain, bring a raincoat, umbrella, or poncho. Ponchos will be available if needed.
This event will take place rain or shine. If weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances are severe enough to require cancellation or other changes, information will be sent to the contact information used to register.
Players for this event must be ages 16 or older.
Refunds will follow PDGA refund guidelines.

As this is a family friendly and sober friendly event, we ask all attendees to respect that there may be young people in attendance, as well as participants of all ages who may be at different comfort levels being around substance use and paraphernalia. Consideration of this is greatly appreciated and will help us make this a welcoming and enjoyable event for all!

Itinerary:
8:00 am - Check In & Coaching
Check in will begin at 8am. When you arrive, visit a registration table and receive your free disc for the event. This is a great time to ask any questions and meet available coaches who can help you learn to disc golf! Areas will be set up for practice throws and coaches can demonstrate and guide players on throws and techniques.
9:30 am - Players Meeting
Before play begins, players will gather together for a “Players Meeting” to hear from organizers of the event and go over the rules of play.
10:00 am - Course Play
It’s time to play! The course will consist of 12 holes with some fun, unique challenges thrown in that beginners and more experienced players alike will enjoy. Coaches will be present at each hole to further help guide players as needed. Course play will take roughly 90 minutes to 2 hours.
12:00 pm* - Goof Off
After course play ends and while organizers tally scores, players are free to participate in fun activities or just take a little break during this downtime. Feel free to chat with others, practice throws, participate in yard games, or enjoy time outside in the park. If there was a particular hole you were frustrated by this is a great time to go back and try it again!
1:00 pm* - Award Ceremony
After scores have been tallied, players will gather one last time for the award ceremony where winners will be announced and prizes will be distributed. Raffle winners will also be announced during this time. Organizers will give final words and send you off with resources and recommendations for how to continue your disc golfing journey!
*Times are approximate and represent best estimations for the event. Any changes to the itinerary will be communicated to players day of the event. If you are providing transportation for a player please have a way to contact them while they are at the event to be notified of any changes.
No need to learn the basics of disc golf? Just be sure to show up by 9:00am to give adequate time for check-in!

Refund policy:
Players who officially request to withdraw from an event at least 30 days before the start of the event will receive a 100% monetary refund of their entry fee (minus up to a $10 handling fee).
Players who officially request to withdraw from an event 15 to 29 days before the start of the event will receive a 100% monetary refund of their entry fee minus up to a $10 handling fee only if their spot in the tournament is filled by a player who is on the waitlist at the time of the withdrawal request. If the player’s spot is not filled, the TD has the choice to provide either a 50% monetary refund of their entry fee or just the player’s pack the player would have received if they had attended (minus the cost of shipping). In the case of a player in a Pro division for an event without a Pro player pack worth at least 25% of the Entry Fee, the TD will provide the 50% monetary refund.
Players who officially request to withdraw from an event within 14 days of the start of the event and prior to the event’s published closure of registration and waitlist replacements (within one week is recommended) will receive a 100% monetary refund minus up to a $10 handling fee only if their spot in the tournament is filled by a player who is on the waitlist at the time of the withdrawal request. If the player’s spot is not filled, the TD has the choice to provide either a 25% monetary refund or just the player’s pack they would have received if they had attended (minus the cost of shipping). In the case of a player in a Pro division for an event without a Pro player pack worth at least 25% of the Entry Fee, the TD will provide the 25% monetary refund.
Players who request withdrawal within 48 hours of the start of play, or who request withdrawal after the published close of registration and the published end of waitlist replacements, are not entitled to a refund. If a TD fills a player’s spot with a player on the waitlist at the time of withdrawal after the published close of registration and the published end of waitlist replacements, but more than 48 hours prior to the start of play, that player must receive a 100% monetary refund of their entry fee.
